Salina’s New Farmers Market: A Fresh Start for Downtown

A vintage 1920s-style illustration of Kansas farmland. The scene features expansive fields of crops, with farmers working in the fields. There are rolling hills in the background, a clear sky, and a sense of community with people helping each other with produce. The art captures the essence of rural life in Kansas during the 1920s, with no urban elements or text in the image.

By Larry Billinger

Having spent nine years in Billings, Montana, I appreciate a bustling farmers market. Billings’ market was a blend of local musicians, artists, and the annual strawberry festival. Now, Salina is stepping up with its own Farmers Market downtown. I’m hopeful it will bring the same vibrant energy, even without the Hutterites’ bountiful produce.

The Salina Farmers Market will run every Saturday from May 25th to October 19th, 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the City Lights Stage parking lot on the corner of Santa Fe Ave and Ash St. There’s also a special “open house” market on May 18th with no vendor fees.
